AEMFI is a member-based association. AEMFI’s regular membership is open to all
legally registered MFIs. Besides NGOs, banks, donors and other institutions and
individuals that have interest in the sector can join the association. AEMFI
plans to have three categories of members:
Regular Members - This consists of any MFIs, which are licensed and registered
by the NBE as per Proclamation No.40/96. The institution should have been
effectively providing services for a minimum period of six months. Currently all
these members pay a membership fee of 2,500 Birr per year. Currently AEMFI has 27 such members that benefit from its services. It is the regular members that
constitute AEMFI's general assembly and board of directors.
Associate Members – This consists of institutions that are directly or
indirectly involved in microfinance activities. Associate members also benefit
from the services of AEMFI though they do not participate in the general
assembly and the board. These members will contribute towards the financing of
the activities of AEMFI at a rate of Br 2,000 per year.
Honorary Members – these include organizations and prominent individuals that
would be selected by AEMFI, its board, or general assembly given that they
contribute positively and support the fulfillment of the objectives of the
association. They are not required to pay any membership fee.
